Classified: No Mistakes (Official Video)

28 01 2010

Okay, so this is my third Classified post in a row. That’s alright though – I’m excited to see him live tomorrow night, gonna be a good show. Hopefully if you’ve never heard of him.. and you’ve been checking out this blog, it’ll make you wanna check him out. He’s worth a listen to in my opinion.

Alright for the song today.. this is the official video for the song “No Mistakes” from the 2005 album Boy-Cott-In the Industry. It was a single from the album and is probably one of Class’ more recognizable songs (behind “All About You” and “Maritimes”). For any Canadians reading this – he won the award for MuchVibe’s “Best Rap Video” at the MuchMusic Video Awards that year.

This is also one of my favourite Classified songs ever – I’m still considering how/where I could get the phrase “Made some mistakes probably make more/Just how it happens when you’re tryin’ to go forward” tattoo’d. Haha. Anyways, check out the song and the video and let me know what you think, Cheers!

Classified: Union Dues

21 01 2010

I’ve already done a Classified review recently, but I’m going to do another one tonight because I’m going to see him live at my University in a week or so. Maybe I’ll get some pictures and throw them up on the blog at some point. Anyways, prior to a few months ago, I had not heard of any of Classified’s music pre-2004 pretty much. “Union Dues” is Classified’s eight studio album and was released in 2001. This album and “Unpredictable” (from 2000) are the earliest albums I’ve heard from Class but he has albums dating back to 1995. He’s just finally hitting his mainstream success now.

Anyways, I’m going to get right to the music. One of the things I love about this album is some of the old school beats. They aren’t the best, but they have an old school feel – with the drumline as center and not all the synths and shit going on with the melodies. Up to this point I’m pretty sure Class made all the beats, raps and produced all of his own shit.. I don’t know if he still does, but I know for most of his work – the beats and production is all done by himself. Read the rest of this entry »

Classified: Boy-Cott-In The Industry

2 12 2009

Okay, so my next review is gonna be of Canadian rapper Classified’s 2005 album “Boy-Cott-In The Industry”. Classified is a Canadian rapper from Enfield, Nova Scotia Canada.. for anybody that has not heard of him. He’s put out 13 albums since 1995, including a Greatest Hits (While You Were Sleeping, 2007), however had not received a record deal until this year with his 2009 release of “Self Explanatory”. Essentially he’s a sick Canadian rapper that has not received much hype because of exactly that fact, he’s from Canada. Up until the explosion of Toronto rapper Drake, Canadian hip hop artists have not had extreme success in the industry – as measured by the American standard of success in the music industry. I plan to review more of his albums at some point in the near future on this blog. Read the rest of this entry »
