Asher Roth: Seared Foie Gras w/ Quince and Raspberry (Mixtape)

24 03 2010

I swear that’s the real name of the mixtape. And that’s the real album cover. So badass. That’s all I have to say about that. haha.

Asher Roth dropped his second mixtape a few days ago and I’m impressed by it. While I was going through the album and preparing what I was going to say about it I came across the song “Rik Smits“. The beat that Ash raps over on this song is originally from a Saigon song called “Come on Baby” by Saigon and was produced by superproducer Just Blaze. The link to the instrumental of this beat is HERE. This is one of my favourite beats ever produced.. it’s an unreal flip. Ash sounds sick over it, definitely check it out.

The mixtape is hosted by Asher Roth and DJ Wreckineyez, you can check them doing a remix of Black Eyed Peas “Boom Boom Pow” from the Live Lounge on BBC Radio 1 last year. They have an all-star set of instrumentals (producers) on this mixtape including the likes of Madlib, Rza, Pharrell Williams from N.E.R.D, 9th Wonder, Kanye West, J Dilla, Just Blaze, Will.I.am from the Black Eyed Peas and Timbaland.

I recommend checking out Toni Braxton, Fuck The Money (ft. B.O.B), What Up Truck, Con-Fid-Ence,  I’m Eddy, Rik Smits, Hot Wangs and the Sour Patch Kids (Remix) with Travis Barker on the drums. These are just a few of the bangers on the album, some of the songs are pure jokes, others are more serious. I definitely believe that this mixtape has album-quality material on it and is worth checking out. You can download it for free here:

Asher Roth: Asleep In The Bread Aisle

3 12 2009

I’m back with another quick review before my next class.

I’m into Asher Roth right now – he put out a solid mixtape (The Greenhouse Effect Mixtape) in 2008, which was produced by DJ Drama and Don Cannon; I’ll be reviewing that at another time.. but I was smokin’ a joint outside this morning and “I Love College” (Roth’s first single) came on and as I was standing on the porch of my deck, thinking about how unmotivated I am to start doing exams.. I was like damn, I Love College. haha

So I came back inside and started to listen to the album, haven’t heard it in a while. It’s a solid debut album for a white kid from the suburbs. I want to get into the Eminem comparisons as well because they piss me off.. I’ll bring that up with Ash’s song “As I Em” later on. Alright so here’s my thoughts, enjoy!
