City Council: Unsocial Commentary (Single Compilation)

28 02 2010

Hey what’s good everybody.

I got an email a few days ago from a group out of Macon, Georgia USA called “City Council”. The group is two rappers (Dwayne “Jubee” Webb and Perry Valentine) and the City Council Street band. When I read up a little bit about these guys I was geared towards expecting “hip hop mixed with classical”. I don’t know if that’s what I’d call it.. but from what I’ve heard, they sound good and you should check them out. I received a four-single compilation album from City Council for their upcoming album “Unsocial Commentary”. If you’re interested in hearing the entire collection or getting a hold of their full album let me know.

The first song I listened to from this group is called “Addicted” and it features Jazzy Perez. So, as I said.. I expected “hip hop mixed with classical”. I don’t know if I’d go as far as saying as this is a “club” type song.. but it’s definitely hyped up and got me pretty pumped. The guitar in this song is hype and the beat sounds pretty sick. The hook from Jazmine Perez sounds great. I like this song.. it’s good.. it’s hip hop, rock, fast, hype..  the guys have sick flow on it as well. The stacked vocals on the verses sounds sick.. the mix of hip hop, the Street Band and the guitar on the track and Jazzy’s vocals makes the combination for a rockstar track. You can check it out on their Myspace page here… ‘ Addicted ‘ by City Council. Read the rest of this entry »

Shwayze: Let It Beat

23 02 2010

“Take me in the bathroom, take my clothes off, make love to me up against the dirty wall.. cuz I can’t wait to get you home!” – “Get U Home” (first single off ‘Let it Beat’) by Shwayze

So if you’ve never heard of Shwayze, here is your brief background. Shwayze is a California rapper and he makes music with former Whitestarr frontman Cisco Adler. The group is kinda funny, Shwayze is a young black rapper and Cisco Adler is this white rocker guy and the former front man of the band Whitestarr. They sound good together. “Let it Beat” is their second studio album and was released in February 2009. Shwayze’s self-titled debut album and “Rich Girls” mixtape preceded it. You might recognize the singles “Buzzin’” and “Corona and Lime” from their first album. Read the rest of this entry »

Vancouver Olympics 2010: Congratulations Alex Bilodeau!

16 02 2010

This post is a little out of character for my blog, but the Olympics are going on right now and I’m a Canadian myself so I’m following a little more closely this year. Alex Bilodeau is a Canadian Olympian moguls skier and he won a Gold medal in his event on Sunday. Not only was this the first Gold medal for Team Canada but also the first Gold medal that Canada has won on its on soil. We failed to win Gold at the Montreal Summer Olympics in 1976 and the Calgary Winter Olympics in 1988.

So congratulations to Alex for making Canadian history!

There will be a new music review coming soon,

Cheers!

Jordan Burnell: My Home Town (Video)

5 02 2010

Hey everyone.

This video was done by some home town friends of mine. I’m originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada and my buddy, Jordan Burnell, wrote this rap for our city. The lyrics touch home with me and it’s a pretty sick song so I thought that I should share it and see what the rest of you think.

A high school friend, Matt Popowich filmed and edited the video – did an amazing job as well. The beat is sick and first perfectly, it’s a sample of the song “Hometown Glory” by artist Adele. Please check out the video and show some support for a local talent and a friend of mine!

Cheers!

Felix Zenger: Beatbox (Video)

2 02 2010

Hey everyone – this is a cool video I found a little while back. This is a beatbox video done by a Finnish artist named Felix Zenger. If you don’t know what beatboxing is – essentially it’s using your mouth and voice to imitate musical instruments, drums, percussion, scratches, etc. and to freestyle beats with his voice.

This is a really cool “music video” of him freestyle beatboxing a beat. It’s insane how you can use your voice to recreate musical patterns and sounds, he does a sick job though and the sound and video is very high quality. Definitely check this video out if you get a minute, he has a lot more videos posted on his Youtube and Myspace if you wanna check the link below. Let me know what you think.

And as a sidenote, I went to ta Classified concert (Canadian rapper) on the weekend, was the first show of the weekend at the start of his new tour. If you are into hip hop and get a chance to check him out live – I highly recommend it!
