The Lonely Island: Incredibad

21 12 2009

Alright so watsup everyone. I’m sitting in the airport in Toronto waiting for my flight to go home for the holidays, so thought I’d write a quick review while I’m waiting. I’m still hungover from last night so I was gonna listen to something just like chill and laid-back.. and then I re-found the Lonely Island’s album “Incredibad” and decided I’d write on that haha. If you don’t know the Lonely Island, they are a comedy group featuring Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone from Saturday Night Live. They’ve had a few of their songs played on SNL as digital shorts in the past.. so you may recognize a couple of the tracks.

Okay so first and foremost, before I move on with the review I just wanna say something quick. Shout out to Lacie if she’s reading this, thanks so much for your comments the other day, appreciated. Also, I’ve been attempting to get the word out about my blog as much as I can the last few days, so thank you so much for anybody that has taken the time to read an article or two. Ratatat: Self-Titled

19 12 2009

Hey everyone what’s up. I spent a lot of time adding my blog to different networks and sharing my feeds and whatnot this afternoon.. hoping to get the word out a little bit. So to anyone who sees and reads this, thank you very much for taking the time to stop by and read what I have to say. I realize this blog is very young still but I have received a ton of hits, way more than I expected and it’s encouraging.

Anyways, moving a long. So this post is going to be dedicated to the group Ratatat’s self-titled debut album. If you don’t know Ratatat, they’re a two-person group from New York. Mike Stroud plays guitar and Evan Mast is the synthesizer player and producer. They make kind of a music of electronica, techno, hip hop, rock.. I don’t know it’s weird and it’s a little bit difficult to explain. I first heard of these guys on Kid Cudi’s debut album a few months ago (my Kid Cudi: Man on the Moon review) and loved the work they did on that album. My friend suggested I get Classics, their latest album, today. So I decided to grab both of their records and start with their first. Read the rest of this entry »

Lil Wayne Detained in Texas!

18 12 2009

Hey I’m back with a quick update. I didn’t intend for this to be a news blog.. rather more focused on my tastes in music. However, as I find interesting music related tidbits I will post them. This is from CNN:

(CNN) — Rapper Lil Wayne was detained by U.S. Border Patrol agents in Texas on Friday after authorities found marijuana on two of his tour buses.

The marijuana on the buses was detected by drug dogs, said Agent Joe Trevino. The rapper, whose real name is DeWayne Michael Carter, Jr., was among a dozen being detained from his group. Trevino said the buses were en route to Laredo, Texas, from a concert stop in Hidalgo state. Calls to Carter’s representatives were not immediately returned Friday.

The Louisiana native was the 2008 best-selling artist, with 2.8 million records sold, and is signed to Cash Money Records. The rapper is scheduled to begin a prison sentence in February stemming from gun charges in New York.

Sucks for Wayne. For those who don’t know, he is scheduled to go to prison in February 2010 from weapons possession charges in New York. And now this – not a good end of 2009 for Lil Wayne.

Ludacris: Chicken-n-Beer

18 12 2009

Watsup everyone I’m back with another review. My final exam is tomorrow morning (Saturday), so once that’s out of the way you can expect a lot of new content to be posted. Moving on though, I’ve been listening to Ludacris’ “Chicken-n-Beer” all day today and it’s a sick album. This is Ludacris’ third studio album and was released in 2003.

I’ll start by saying that I think Ludacris is one of the most underrated rappers in hip-hop. I’m a huge fan, I like a lot of his music and have all of his albums except for Release Therapy – which I still have to grab. When you think of “who are the best rappers” names like Biggie, Tupac, Jay Z, Nas all come to mind.. you don’t ever hear Luda mentioned with those guys. I think he should be up there though, he has sick flow.. he’s also the most successful Southern rapper ever. Interesting fact. haha Read the rest of this entry »

Soul Drift; Check This Music Blog Out!

17 12 2009

Hey everyone.

I stumbled upon this site earlier today, it’s called SoulDrift. It’s an alternative music blog with a focus on rock and metal. The author, Sara, has been maintaining this blog since 2007 and the main goal is to share  news, reviews and interviews in the alternative rock scene, and to bring new/unsigned bands to light & shed information on already established bands. Since I’ve started this blog I’ve been searching around other sites and blogs to find other people interested in the same types of music and that have similar ideas as myself. For anybody interested in finding new, good alternative rock music.. SoulDrift is definitely a blog you should be heading towards.

Although I don’t recognize a lot of the artists or music on SoulDrift, the blog is amazing. The layout, the content.. it’s an amazing looking blog and a great inspiration for myself and this blog. I love finding new music and new music blogs as professional, yet relateable as SoulDrift and I highly recommend everyone that sees this post to check it out. Hopefully in the future you will be able to witness this blog develop into something as creative and exciting as SoulDrift!

Cheers!

Lil Wayne ft. Eminem: Drop The World

15 12 2009

Just a quick post.. thought I’d pass this along.

This is a new song from Lil Wayne’s “Rebirth” album. Originally I thought it was supposed to be a rock album.. but this has more of a hip-hop “swagger” to it in my opinion. I guess even “Prom Queen” if you’ve heard it.. does have a hip hop swag to it. Anyways, this song features Eminem and he’s one of my fav rappers (him and Jay Z). I also love Wayne.. I saw him live last year.

Em rips into this hard and I like Wayne’s style on it. Not his normal whiny-self haha. As much as I love Wayne.. I get the hate.. he does whine and mumble.. but he’s still good and this is a sick song in my opinion.

Check the song out, credit to Rap Basement for the link!

City and Colour: Sometimes

15 12 2009

Hey everyone, back with another quick review. I just finished writing an exam and now I’m chillin’ in the campus bar watching Sportscenter, havin’ a beer and listening to some Dallas Green. I wrote a few days ago about Alexisonfire’s newest album Old Crows/Young Cardinals. Dallas Green is the lead singer and lead guitarist from the Canadian band and City and Colour is his solo project. His style is considered acoustic (obvious if you listen lol) and folk, which I thought was kind of interesting. Just before I continue – I don’t claim to be an expert on music or musicians.. I’ve said this before but I just wanna state that again. I draw a lot of information, facts, trivial things, etc. from other websites/articles I’ve read and usually Wikipedia for a lot of background. So if you see information that has shown up elsewhere – yes that’s probably where I got it from.. but I just use it to set context for the artist/album I’m writing about.

Okay? Okay, good! haha Alright so on to the CD, Dallas Green’s debut solo album from 2005: Sometimes. Read the rest of this entry »

New Friends @ Decibel Blog; Check them out!

14 12 2009

Hey everyone,

While I’m online.. I thought I might as well put up a quick post about my new friends over at Decibel Blog. The idea for my blog started similar to how they started out. Originally, intended to post some music news and reviews on more indie music and getting it on the internet and available to the masses that had not heard it in the past. Although my music is more personal, rather than interested in finding indie music.. the ideas of our blogs have started out the same.

Decibel Blog started in January of 2009 and has “grown to include both new artists, underrated songs, and music news, all which help foster the music community by providing non-mainstream artists a way to reach the top.” (I stole that from their site.) Anyways – I have a link posted up under my “Blogroll” but you guys should check out Decibel Blog and the wealth of knowledge that they share.. it’s a great site and it comes highly suggested from me!

Cheers!
